Overview
Web Management Unit is responsible for hosting, managing and maintaining over 400 UKZN websites (both on Ubuntu and Windows platforms), the Innerweb, executive stand-alone communiqués, the batch Notice System, layout of the weekly NdabaOnline newsletter, attending to technical web and server related matters. This includes Colleges, Schools, Departments, Centers, Professional Services, Research groups and Academic Research sites across UKZN. The team provides governance, training and support to UKZN staff and students on the use of the database driven content management system to ensure that all websites are up to date.

- Traffic monitoring and planning: We scale and grow websites and servers to accommodate more traffic and plan for future increases
- Registering domain names and proxies via the UKZN’s ICS unit
- Aligning the websites with the organisation's brand
- Strategy and standards
- Automating the advertising of University wide events
- Monitoring for website security breaches and responding to them as needed
- Replying to, troubleshooting and resolving website technical issues
- Automating online communication
- Testing to ensure website efficiency and quality
- Creating strategies to improve website traffic
- Ensuring the websites complies with the appropriate laws and regulations
- Following and implementing industry best practices
- Identifying ways to improve user experience based on the different categories of audience
- Implementing security measures to protect websites
- Producing sitemaps that represent and visualize the website's structure and functions
- Updating website coding frequently
